In addition to diet, lifestyle factors such as stress management, adequate sleep, and regular exercise play significant roles in gut health. Prioritising quality sleep allows the body to repair and regenerate, including the cells lining the gut. Research shows that our gut microbes can impact how well we sleep and changing the microbiome can improve sleep.Aim for good quality and quantity of sleep.

Dietitian’s top tips for optimising your gut health:
- Aim for 30 plant points a week (Fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains, nuts, seeds, herbs and spices).
- Add the rainbow into every meal (different colour peppers, apples, tomatoes, grapes, carrots etc)
- Increase your fibre (Aim for 30g per day)
- Explore fermented foods - (yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, and kimchi)
- Limit ultra processed foods (start making your own granolas and protein balls)
